Above the Ocean, in harmony with Mother Earth.

That’s Mamiwata Eco Village. A calm place where people, nature and architecture come together.

Mamiwata Eco Village: Eco-friendly hotel with wow.

We didn’t want Mamiwata Eco Village just a simple sustainable place. We wanted wow! And that’s what Mamiwata is all about. Epic views, a eco-friendly stay at the shore of the ocean, bringing organic life to an arid rocky hill. Sunsets, relaxation, ocean breezes, cocktails, afternoons at the pool and simple yet stylish rooms.

Catering with care

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, drinks and even catering our hilltop meeting building: Mamiwata Eco Village offers all hotel and restaurant services. But here, food comes from sustainable choices, local partners and our own organic garden.

Step by step

What started as an idea of three investors back in 2010, came to live step by step, terrace by terrace, building by building with local partners. Now Mamiwata Eco Village is open and yes, we are even proud of it.

Frequently asked questions

Mamiwata Eco Village is a fully sustainable hotel, made out of mostly separate little units on a cliff above the Atlantic Ocean. All this is spiced up with contemporary architecture, eco friendly energy, a lot of green areas, organic garden, our own vine yard, fine local food and sea views from each unit.

We are nowhere close to an all inclusive resort or a mass tourism destination. That applies basically to everything: number of clients, food, services and the typical daily routines.
Even if we are close to the ocean, we don’t recommend to swim in the ocean. Santo Antão is not the island for beach holidays.

We welcome every guest to our hotel. Nevertheless Mamiwata Eco Village is most perfectly designed for people who search for tranquility, nature and privacy. Some typical clients are hikers, digital nomads, yoga enthusiasts, independent travelers, glampers. We also host yoga sessions and/or other corporate workshop in our bright and large „temple“ building on one of the highest rocks, overlooking everything.

Mamiwata Eco Village is located on the Cape Verde island of Santo Antão. The next international airport is the island of São Vicente. Airport code: VXE. From there take the twice or thrice daily ferryboat to Santo Antão. You will arrive at the little harbor village of Porto Novo. From there take a private transportation or ask us early in advance via e-mail to organize a shared taxi (so called “coletivo“) that is around 7-8 €/ person. Here you will go with the local public transportation to our place. The transfer time takes about 2 hours.

Discover the surroundings of our hotel, for example the lovely village of Cha d‘Igreja. Mainly this place is for relaxation and enjoying nature. Nevertheless some hikes are possible in this area. Visit Paúl valley. Take a swim at our natural pool. Have a massage. Do yoga. Walk up the terraces of Mamiwata or publish your photos using #mamiwa_eco_village

Upon request we can ask drivers from our area to do private transportation.

The only rental car services are located in Porto Novo where the ferry arrives and departs. We can recommend the company “Vale & Montanha”.

Yes! You find the swimming pool at Mamiwata Eco Village on one of the higher terraces. It offers impressive views over the Atlantic Ocean. This pool is a natural tank how it is used a lot on Santo Antão. We use the water also for irrigation. Depending on weather, it may get windy.

No. We don’t have those typical all day beaches nearby. You will find some very unique beach experiences in walking/hiking distance. These beaches are usually the mouth of dried out rivers and made of black lava sand and/or stones. Waves and currents can become strong, depending on weather conditions.

We do have a room for disabled guests close to the entrance and will warmly welcome you. Yet the terraced rocky terrain makes it difficult to discover large parts of the open areas.

Yes. We only ask our guests to pay the obligatory hotel tax in cash, as we pay this 1:1 as tax to the government.

Breakfast is included on the rates for hotel rooms, but not for the villas. Nevertheless it can of course be ordered on request.

Dinner is not included in our room or villa rates, but we recommend to book it additionally in advance or latest upon arrival on spot.

We try our best to adapt to the needs and wishes of our guests. Please, inform us with your booking! On Cape Verde, more specific eating habits are still rather unfamiliar, and soy products, for example, have only recently appeared in the market. We do our best to give you an enriching time in terms of food as well. However, it sometimes makes sense to bring one or the other product with you from Europe.
