The easiest way to arrive is by plane to São Vicente Island (VXE) airport. From there, a short taxi drive will take you to Mindelo, the cultural capital of Cabo Verde. Here two daily ferries depart to Mamiwata’s home island of Santo Antão. After a ride of 40 to 60 minutes, the ferries arrive to Porto Novo, from where you reach us by car on outstandingly scenic routes. Just before entering the village of Cruzinha, Mamiwata Ecovillage awaits you.
Sustainability at Mamiwata Ecovillage
Nice to You. And to Mami Earth.
When it comes to sustainability efforts, we mean it. Mamiwata Ecovillage tries to care for the people and communities around us and the beautiful nature at Santo Antão. And this ultimately brings advantages to you, our clients.
Examples of what we do: 1) We work with local employees and that also up to the hotel’s management. 2) We provided street lights to the village street of Chã de Igreja. 3) We receive almost all food supplies from local sustainable sources. 4) We do not sell plastic bottles at all. 5) Special shower heads save up to 50% of water, without reducing comfort. 6) Greywater is used for irrigation. 7) And much of our energy comes from our own solar power plant. (See more in the Sustainability section).
As a sign of gratitute, all rooms are named after the construction workers, who built these.
